recycling

Nibro simply believes in green E-Waste Recycling and will remarket computers that still have residual value and recycle those that don't in an environmentally responsible way. Any hardware deemed non-resalable are thoroughly dismantled in a safe manner that allows for the extraction of the raw materials which are then analyzed and destroyed according to state and federal guidelines. Nibro takes pride in the fact that we aggressively adhere to the Environmental Protection Agency's rules and regulations.

Some electronic products are made from valuable resources and materials, including metals, plastics, and glass, all of which require energy to mine and manufacture. Donating or recycling consumer electronics conserves our natural resources and avoids air and water pollution, as well as greenhouse gas emissions.

Did you know that recycling 1MM laptops saves the energy equivalent to the electricity used by approx 3,500 US homes in a year?

Did you know that for every 1MM cell phones we recycle, 35 lbs of copper, 772 lbs of silver, 75 lbs of gold, and 33 lbs of palladium can be potentially recovered?

According to the EPA, in 2008 the United States generated 3.16 million tons of e-waste. Of this amount, only 430,000 tons or 13.6% was recycled with the rest dumped in landfills or incinerators. Secondly, the EPA estimates the following quantities of electronics were in storage by 2007 (not including cell phones):

Televisions: 99.1 million
Desktop computers: 65.7 million
Desktop monitors: 42.4 million
Notebook computers: 2.1 million
Hard copy peripherals: 25.2 million (printers, copiers, faxes, multi’s) TOTAL: 234.6 million units in storage

Some of our environmentally friendly services to help our clients minimize their risks are dictated below:

* Decommissioned CRT monitors: These items pose a serious health threat to the environment. Nibro sends all unsalvageable CRTs to our downstream eSteward Certified partners where they are taken apart by hand to ensure zero environmental impact.
* PCs and servers: These items are first deconstructed and individual components such as CPUs, RAM and hard drives are harvested, wiped clean and remarketed whenever possible. The rest of the machine is stripped down and sorted into different material silos such as plastics, metals, circuit boards and cables. These materials are then sent to a authorized partner who then refines and smelt these items into raw materials that can be reused elswhere.
* Printers/Copiers/Fax Machines: These items are stripped of any potentially toxic materials such as large LCD screens or toner cartridges and then sent to a authorized partner where their plastics and metals are recycled and reused whenever possible.
* UPS & Battery Backups: The vast majority of battery backup systems use lead acid batteries. As we know, lead is an extremely toxic substance. We have a partner that smelts and refines batteries into recycled commodities such as hard and soft lead and sodium sulfate. The old plastic cases are also broken down and recycled.

Bottom-line, when computers and related IT hardware are not properly disposed of, the deteriorating components can leak toxins and carcinogens into the environment. Not only are there environmental ramifications of improper hardware disposal, hefty fines and penalties are set upon those companies found guilty of not practicing compliant computer recycling. Therefore, it is critical that you partner with the right e-waste recycling service provider. Let Nibro handle the technology recycling and disposal for your company so you can effectively and responsibly minimize your eco footprint.
